Own your mistakes

Halloo,

Who can honestly stand up and say confidently that they have never made a mistake in their entire life?

I am pretty sure the answer is- no one.

It gets tricky though because many of us acknowledge that some mistakes were made, but instead of taking responsibility for our part in these mistakes and learn to do better, we spend so much time and energy on apportioning blame to others.

I think this is where most people fall short. Their Inability to take responsibility and own their mistakes is what is robbing them of opportunities to grow.

Learning to take responsibility for your mistakes is hard. But guess what? It will pay off. You see when things go really wrong, if you look carefully, you will see where you should have played things differently. Of course, the main and obvious faults may lie with others.

This is not a guarantee that future mistakes wonā€™t be made, but owning up to this particular mistake and learning from it, make the possibility of this same mistake happening very slim.

This is one of the things I am teaching myself. I want to grow in both my personal and professional life. How can I grow and learn from my mistakes when I refused to accept the parts I played in the offending situation?

But when it is always someone elseā€™s fault, it is never you. They are out to get you, they are out to destroy you, they donā€™t listen to you, they didnā€™t carry out the instruction you gave……… I call it Excuses, excuses, and excuses.

Problems are meant to be solved. Or there are always ways around them if you put your mind to it. Self-pity and wallowing help no one. When things go wrong, look at the situation critically, see what you could have done differently, and learn not to make the same mistakes again.

Read the stories of many successful people, see how many times they have made mistakes, some so critical that it nearly ruined them, some ruined by their mistakes. But they learn from these mistakes and bounced back.

Their stories are worth reading today because they accepted their faults and learn. Not wasting time and energy on blame games. So many people out there whose stories never got told because they never got to move on from their mistakes. They keep doing the same things over and over, again and again, expecting different results. Luck is not against them, we know what is!

But if you are hell-bent on looking for who to blame or love to blame others, you can’t learn, which ultimately mean you won’t grow. This doesn’t mean you won’t make other mistakes, it simply meant you won’t be making the same mistakes all over again.

Please, accept the part you played when things go wrong, learn from it, and grow from it.
