Halloo,

Here is another reason to be glad you are doing all you can to lead a healthy life and paying respect to Mother-Nature. Honestly, all of us (Nature Lovers) deserve a pat on the back.

Did you know that most of the store bought body-scrubs are made with microbeads? Apparently, they are.

Now microbeads are not yet known to cause any health hazards (please correct me if I am wrong) to the people using them but the danger they do to the ecological system is very serious.

Micro-beads are dangerous to the environment.

What Are Microbeads?

According to Wikipedia: Microbeads are manufactured solid plastic particles of less than five millimeteres in their largest dimensions. They are most frequently made of polythene but can be of other petrochemical plastics such as polypropylene and polystyrene. They are used in exfoliating personal care products, toothpastes and in biomedical and health-science research.

Microbeads are added as an exfoliating agent to cosmetics and personal care products, such as soaps, facial scrubs, Toothpaste, and others.

Why are Microbeads so Dangerous?

These micro-beads are dangerous to the environment because they don’t dissolve, disintegrate, or disappear for years. They stay there stagnant, causing havocs to living organisms.

So imagine every time someone uses body scrubs, thousands of these beads are released into the drainage system which finally get into the water system and will remain there for years just because someone wants to look beautiful for a few days. This dangerous process is repeated daily, over and over again.

Here are some of the dangers of Microbeads:

  • Micro-beads block drainage
  • They contaminate water
  • Microbeads can cause plastic particle water pollution
  • Can cause an environmental hazard to aquatic animals
  • Microbeads do not disintegrate for years which makes them dangerous to our environment

My anger is- why does anybody need to do this when there are numerous natural exfoliating agents that are perfectly safe for the environment.

We have Sugar, Salt, Oats, and many more. These are really good ingredients for safely removing dead skin and make one beautiful without worrying about poisoning the planet.

Natural Body Scrubs are very easy to make anyway, with most of the ingredients already in your kitchen. So why pay for something that will destroy our habitat? Click here for this simple recipe for Homemade body scrub

Our beauty routine shouldn’t destroy our environment, it really shouldn’t. So let’s join together and say NO! to those who value profit over health.

Many Countries already banned the use of microbeads and giant cosmetics manufacturers are saying they have started phasing it out. But there are many countries still debating whether to ban it or not, my dear Ireland included.

Protect the Environment by Using Natural Products.

Natural Skincare is the best.
